Holding Memories: Recipe Box Workshop

Making Memory Keepsakes In-Person

In the 2026 UCSB Reads book, Crying in H Mart, Michelle Zauner explores her experience of grief as well as music making as part of the band Japanese Breakfast. We invite you to join us for a special collaboration event inspired by Zauner’s story and artistic expression.

We will create memorial flowers to honor our own loved ones who’ve passed away. All required materials to create your flower will be provided, and you are welcome to also bring sentimental fabrics to incorporate. Flowers can be displayed in a temporary exhibition at the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) building if you choose or kept as keepsake keychains after the event.

Loss can look different for each of us. We hope to be in community with you as you honor your experience.

The event will take place in Library Room 2509 (2nd Floor, Mountain Side).
